WARNING: My ramen preferences are for broths with a thicker consistency (e.g. tonkotsu ramen, or tan tan men) As a self-professed ramen gastronome I'd have to say that the ramen I had here was...well, lets just say I will never have it again. If I wanted top ramen, I would have bought the 25 cent package at Longs and heated it up myself... However, my order did come with a curry as well. I got the fried oyster set menu. As I continued to ignore the stuff in the styrofoam bowl, I was pleasantly surprised by the oyster curry. I had to inhale the food as I was running late in my lunch hour, so my taste buds got a drive-by quality inspection as the food was forced down at an impressive pace. I can't honestly say I'd come here again. Sam's Club is downstairs so if I wanted cheap eats, the dollar fifty hot dog is a scrooge's gourmet meal. If you like ramen, type ramen in the search field and type Honolulu's zip code for something much better.

The food was alright. I expected better due to the fact of my brothers constant insistence on eating here because the food is "beyond great"! First off the cashier was snobby & gave me the infamous stink eye!! Then my food took well over 25 minutes. All I ordered was a small fruit punch & a mini shrimp fried rice. The way my shrimp fried rice came, the name of it should be mushy peppery fried rice. There was just one piece of shrimp & mixed in were peas carrots and also little bits of eggs. I disliked the fact that my rice was mushy or soggy and tasted horribly of just salt and plain old pepper. Ive been here once prior to this time, and last time I enjoyed my shrimp fried rice. But today was just not my day. Hopefully next time I decide to eat there, my food will be just like the first time I ate there. (:

Bleh! 5 bucks for the chicken katsu curry mini plate. It was okay. The chicken katsu pieces were a little skimpy but at least it was crispy and the curry was mediocre as it was little cold. Satisfied my hunger but not enough for me to come running back to this place. I should've coaxed my mom into eating at Sam's Club - a nathan's hot dog with a drink for $1.50. Darn! But overall okay experience. I can't really judge it too much since it is the first time I have eaten here. Will try something else - if i have no choice.

We were out with all the kids and needed some chow. This was close so we decided to stop. I had the chicken katsu ramen bowl and it was just OK nothing to yelp home about but come on, it's in a mall food court. Usually, if I'm looking for really good food I don't go looking at the mall... Service was average, cost was average, quality was average - hence the 3.

This is the first Sumo Ramen that I've been to and I must say that my husband and I love it. I like getting the chicken katsu curry rice and my husband gets the spicy chicken curry rice. We've been there about three times and all three times were good. I thought that the workers here were okay, not rude or over friendly....they didn't smile too much but hey, all I want is good food! And that's what they gave me! The only bummer is that you can only use your credit/debit card if the total amount is 10 bucks or greater...

A MUST TRY: CHICKEN KATSU CURRY!! I love their curry. It's not like other curry...it sort of has a sweetness to it. Their food is not expensive & you get A LOT of food!!! Also, their gyoza is yummy!!

Had the Mabo Ramen. Half way through the meal I became violently sick and had to run to the restroom to throw up. When I told them about it, they asked if I wanted to try the gyoza instead. Eat here at your own peril.

I was craving ramen and we were done with our shopping at Ross. We walked over to the food court and I saw Sumo so I figured I'd give it a try. How do you screw up ramen and gyoza right? Well the ramen came out luke warm, i mean seriously do they not boil the water but once in the morning? The gyoza that took an extra 10 mins to be ready, which I expected to be hot and fresh as they were taking the time to cook it, turned out to be cold and soggy. Not crunchy on the bottom at all. My wife had the Crispy Seafood Noodles and I had a taste and this is the only redeeming thing about this review. If it wasnt for this dish they would have gotten 1 star. Sadly, I wont be back.

I got a $5 mini mochiko plate and it only had 5 piece of small chicken while the rest was majority of rice. I also gotta mini shrimp fried rice which barely had any taste as if the cook rushed it rather than taking his time. One star for me

I ate here once - I was looking for something good at this mall but inside was pretty plain and nothing looked good until I saw this restaurant. It stood out. This mall is cold so this kept me warm as I love ramen! Definitely would recommend this place!

Came here to have lunch before watching a movie. Decided to try the mapo tofu, first time ever not bad. Be warned it's a spicy ramen but not too much where you can't enjoy it. I'd order it again.

I ordered a chicken katsu curry and curry cheese fries. The fries came out first and they told me the katsu would be a couple more minutes. They gave me free gyoza for the wait. Cool! Even though I didnt feel like I was waiting long.

I usually don't complain about their food, I usually get their mochiko chicken curry, which was alright but i decided to get the mochicko chicken mini without the curry. So any mini plate it comes with rice, meat, and mac salad. As I took a bite of the mac salad it did not taste like the mac salad, it tasted sour and look all wet drenched with mayo, which was not appealing so I just ate my chicken instead. Another thing, they gave me a lot of rice and gave less meat about 3 or 2 pieces of chicken. Unacceptable!

This is a good spot to grab a quick lunch. Not the greatest for cost but the food is decent enough. This time I ordered the Mochiko chicken curry. Tasty and simple enough for a quick lunch.

22/31 ive had their ramen and curry a few times already and overall its okay. ive had their vegetable ramen and its a bit plain. their curry is also okay, def nothing like curry house but if youre in the mood for curry then it'll satisfy that craving. as for the curry, ive had their curry ramen and its aa bit too thick, as I would prefer it to have more broth that you could slurp up with your noodles. their mapo tofu is also alright, and like the curry, its a bit too thick for my liking. prices are a bit lower than other ramen places so thats nice.

Sorry Sumo. Thought I'd treat my father to lunch today and decided to get the Shrimp Fried Rice. I love it, just not from here. It wasn't as tasty as some other places(Daiichi), was not mixed well; still patched of white rice and there were bits of hard rice inside as well.

I ordered the shrimp fried rice and i've had better. it was dry and lacking flavor

So the food is ok. I always eat the Spicy Chicken Wings with curry WITH egg drop soup. my 3 stars go out to the food. BUT!... of all the Sumo Ramen places i've been too...(kamehameha shopping center and the Kapolei location) this one needs a change in workers. they weren't very nice when they took my order and sorta just shoved my tray towards me when it was ready... sheez get a grip.

When I'm starving, my instincts are shot. I almost always pick the worst meals with the highest prices on an empty stomach. It's like nailing the ugly chick that was standing next to you because you couldn't wait any longer, then learning afterward that the hot super model across the room was just about to buy you a drink. Today, I was starving. Unfortunately, I was near Sumo Ramen and Curry. First and foremost, this place is in the food court of Pearl Highlands Shopping Center. If you've ever wanted to see joy get sucked into a vacuum of hopelessness, then this place is for you. It's a pretty miserable setting. When I approached their counter, I tried to use some strategy to order my food-- Why pay for the mini shrimp tempura curry with gyoza on the side when I can get a mini gyoza curry with shrimp tempura on the side for 25 cents cheaper? The reason why this strategy failed is because cheaper, shitty food is still shitty food. There was literally no taste to the shrimp tempura. Absolutely none. I don't even know how you could do that. For godsakes, could you at least sneeze on it so that I could get some salt on there? The mini gyoza plate had the tiniest gyozas I'd ever seen and for a place that boasts, "Curry" in it's name, the least you could do is make that part edible. I think the highlight of the meal was the rice and the free cup of water they gave me. I gave it two stars instead of one because the people weren't that bad and I only downgrade heavily if I've received bad service.

I like Sumo Ramen. I always get their shrimp fried rice, which is one of my faves. When this place gets customers and the busyness arises. It could take a while to get your food as mentioned in the reviews below. Customer service is aight... so yeah.

One thing I can always count on here is that I'll always end up full. Today I had the spam katsu curry combo ($9.50). The spam katsu was good. First time trying it and it was a welcomed change from regular chicken katsu. The curry was alright. A bit on the sweeter side. Like others said, the gyoza was on the smaller side. The ramen was really plain since it just came with a piece of kamoboko and char siu. The noodles were cooked good, but the broth was bland. The other diner with me got their ramen and chicken katsu 10 minutes after me and gyoza a couple of minutes after that. They gotta work on coordinating that since our combos were similar and someone after us got their order. Or they should have give out the gyoza first to snack on that while waiting for the katsu.

I've only tried the chicken katsu curry, the ramen, and the gyoza. Tasty curry, hot and fresh. Ramen and gyoza are ok but nothing special. Friendly service but on 3 occasions, i've had to wait close to 15 minutes for my food. Ok if you have time to spare but if you're on lunch break, this is too long. Nowadays, if I'm in the mood for curry, I ask myself, "How much time do I have to spare? If I have time, I'll go to Sumo. If I need to be anywhere within the next 45 minutes, I'll choose one of the other food places in this food court.

Ate at Sumo Ramen today...first time. We were in the shopping area and was hungry. Not a big fan of Japanese curry. I prefer Thai curry instead but I didn't want Thai today. I ordered the shabu beef curry with rice and curry cheese fries. The curry cheese fries taste like cheesy fries dipped in curry, but with little cheese. The shabu beef tastes curry with rice tastes like rice with thinly sliced boiled beef and sauteed onions on top with a huge ladle of curry sauce. There was more curry and onins than beef, but more rice than anything else. The food tastes good, but portion size wasn't so great. My whole plate had about 7 small thinly sliced beef. Had to throw away most of the rice with curry and onions. The curry was good, but I'd rather make my own or eat somewhere else. If you don't eat much meat...feel free to eat here.

I am a huge fan of Sumo Ramen ever since I first ate at their restaurant several years ago. I cannot get enough of their oyster curry; deep fried oysters with a whole lot of Japanese curry and rice. I get extra red pickles and a side of the chili pepper flakes to compliment the already delicious flavor. The hubby gets their spicy chicken curry; fried chicken tossed with a spicy garlic sauce with Japanese curry and rice. With 2 large drinks, our order came out to around $20. Not too shabby for a great meal to fill you up before walking it off shopping...

This one has got to be on the bottom of the list for the Sumo Ramen's that I've been to. The rice was hard, the curry was bitter, and the Mochiko Chicken was fatty. Don't think I'll be driving all the way down here for lunch again anytime soon.

Slow service. The counter girl was too busy eating her lunch behind the curtains to help the line of people waiting to order. Then she came out and handled our money AND food without washing her hands first. Yuck.

ok so i work around this area so i pretty much eat at the food court every other day...i love curry so u can imagine my disappointment when i called in my order and went to pick it up there was no curry and i had to wait extra 10 min because my gyoza wasnt ready but the thing that pissed me off was that the employees were standing there eating gyoza...wth...i was so irritated because i only have 30 min of lunch so when i called to ask about the curry she just says oh come back and i give u curry...that's not the point!! when i'm paying for something i want it correct!!!! it's so annoying how none of the workers speak english...really....annoying!!!! i just cant believe that even the owner doesnt speak english!!! don't get me wrong i'm an immigrant too but dang...workers should all be able to communicate with the customers especially when they are ordering your food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would probably eat there just cause their curry is pretty good but i won't be leaving any tip cause the employees all suck~~~~~~~
